Oral presentations can be stressful, but when your child has a good speech, it will make it a little easier. Here are some top tips to help your child with their oral presentations.
When writing their speech, your child should:
- Choose a topic that they are interested in, and the theme should be clear throughout the speech.
- Pick a tone of voice and stick to it. The tone of voice largely depends on your child’s personality – if they like telling jokes, make it a light-heated speech. If your child is a bit more serious, they should use a serious tone of voice.
- Use short sentences and words that they understand and know how to pronounce.
- Find an interesting way to start– this will also help set the tone for the rest of the presentation.
- Move from one topic to the next in a logical way.
- Try to end the speech with a summary of what they have said during the speech and if possible, always end on a positive note.
- Revise their speech. Once the first draft is written they should read through it and make the necessary changes.
- Practice! Let your child practice saying the speech out loud in front of you – this will help your child build their confidence.
