Paper Pinwheel

You will need:

• Skêr
• Lightweight card or paper
• A pin
• Unsharpened pencil with a rubber
• A straw
• A flat hard surface such as a table

What to do:

1. Cut the paper or card to form a square
2. Draw two diagonal lines from bottom corners to top corners. The centre is where the lines bisect.
3. You can then decorate the squares with any colour. Your kids can use stickers, colour pencils, cut out pictures from magazines or newspapers.
4. You should cut along the diagonal lines from the bottom corner towards the centre and stop near the centre.
5. Labelling the cut-out lines will make it easy to lift and pin the appropriate edge.
6. Lift one of the pointed diagonal edges up just near the centre and bring up one after the other and tuck them under the first one and use the pin to fix them.
7. To complete the wheel, press the pin through the centre of the paper or card. And turn the pin round so that it can make space for free spinning.
8. You will need a separator that will allow the pinwheel to spin freely. So, cut about one centimeter off the end of a straw, you can use a bead if you have one. Thread the pin through the small part of the cut-out straw.
9. You can use any stick-like material or pencil with a rubber at the end. The rubber makes it easy to press the pin through without using hammer.
10. Press the pin into the pencil rubber. You can bend the pin or use another centimeter of straw to secure the end of the pin. Just use your imagination to see how it goes.
11. Your paper pinwheel or toy windmill is now ready to spin freely.
